A solid and safe defenceman is an important player for any hockey team. The defenceman who can lead or join the attack at the right time and become an offensive threat is a skill which is rarely taught and rarely executed in youth hockey. Join the Apollo Hockey group in Liverpool to become better at creating offence in their own zone (starting the attack), in the neutral zone and finally in the offensive zone. Players in attendance will gain skill, smarts and confidence.
Question: Do the players need to be defencemen? Answer: No they don't and it's helpful for forwards to learn how to attack from the back.
Question: Will the players learn skills as well as situational tactics? Answer: Yes. Each player will spend time on key skills such as escape moves (skating and stickhandling), passing, one-timers and shooting.
Question: What will the players be better able to do once the camp is over? Answer: Each player will gain skill, smarts and confidence to escape oncoming checks, make smart short tape-to-tape passes, make long passes to forwards in the neutral zone, join the rush and act like a forward, "walk the blueline" with the puck to bring it into a more dangerous area, support the other 4 teammates on the ice, jump into the slot at the right time to get a pass and (hopefully) score a big goal. This and more.
